[D1-EE] Crawdad Boil [Social Thread]

The lake is a popular spot for fishing and water sports, rumored to be named after a tribe that lived in the area, it is a cold murky lake with a spotty history.

The Mask of Dily waved awkwardly to Chantelle to return the gesture from earlier, whereas the Mien underneath seemed fairly neutral about the whole ordeal. Still, she seemed to partake in the festivities with a cool but polite demeanor, eating heartily of the offered food and drink, and giving her attention to the performances.

The ones who were familiar faces to her earned a rare smile (as in a subtle tug at the corner of the mouth) from the true face underneath, and she slinked over to Gray. "Gray," Dily spoke softly, her breath frozen in the air as if the temperature was much colder than it actually is. "What do you think - of the gathering?"

Hugo sat to the side, attempting to out eat even Grey. Animatedly, around bites of crawdads, he began to talk about his work to any and all who would listen.

Redmane was at the grill sure there was Cajun food but leave it to a black man of the South of a certain age to find himself at the large grill tending to that BBQ with his sweet sauce, homemade of course. He had a stained apron that read ‘Kiss the Chef’. He chuckled loudly and made sure that if someone wanted a plate they had all the BBQ they would ever need.

Those near him were entertained with a story from his war days, though he was never clear on just what war he was talking about. If there was any discomfort it was when he needed to move as the prosthetic was a bit stiff.

Otherwise he was all smiles, which seemed to annoy the Winter Queen even more.

A massive figure strode into the party wearing a simple white shirt with an army style jacket over top. He was all smiles as he entered his mask that of a dark skinned man with a beard and army haircut, tall and muscular he moved with a confidence that came to one who knows and is confident in their ability. Those that saw through the mask saw a being several inches taller and even more muscular, the being glowed as his body seemed to be made of rock and fire and magma his eyes two points that glowed a yellow light out of what seemed to be obsidian carved into the shape of a face though it still moved as if it were a face of flesh and bone.

Craig walked to where Redmane was, never one to miss out on a good southern BBQ "Boss, glad to see you got the grill going cause I worked up a nice big appetite." He gave the Summer king a big grin, a bright gash of orange in the utterly black mask.

Jack sat quietly, for the most part. Ocassionally, he shared a few thoughts about wood.

Samantha might be new to a free life outside of Arcadia, but she knew the signs of a powerful Mantle if she saw one. Her own wasn't quite so powerful, but still stronger than one might expect from one so young. The occasional dead leaf trailed in her wake; and the occasional flickering of candle-lights, or pufts of black smoke. Signs of the Autumn court, to be sure.

"Not at all," she said, staring at the woman with her creepy unblinking eyes. "I'm learnin' all sort of things. And they gone and took good care on the roux."
There was a small nod, as the winter woman stood up. This wasn't a conversation to be sat on a char it seemed, and this one was more interesting than those at the table she'd picked her food at. She gave a small word of apology to the people at the table (that it didn't feel like she meant) and put her hands in her pockets. It wasn't getting any warmer now around her, and a few leaves that strayed too far from the smaller woman froze over.

Still, there was a smallish smile on the womans face. It never reached her eyes though.

"Learning? There is plenty to learn here. What have they taught you so far?" She paused, observing where food was being placed out, adding a courteous "are you going to get some more food?"

Redmane smiled revealing his sharpened teeth as he turned his attention to Craigand began fixing a plate of ribs and hotlinks. He replied, “Good, I ain’t cooked all this for my health, you keeping busy?”

It was a simple question but having experience with the military life, violence in the line of duty, and the trauma of the Lost it was delivered with a smile but had a serious gaze. Plus Redmane was a Marine, and they say once a Marine always a Marine.

Marcus stood by a large bowl of gumbo, his nose twitching in anticipation. His tail laid flat against the ground, the eyes closed. Marcus glanced over his shoulder and smirked. It wasn't the first time the thing was sulking. Fuck that spike ball... he mused to himself as he began to pull out the spines that were stuck in his forearm and shoulder. Wrestling match with a porcupine changeling had been a bad idea, he decided. Yet, despite the slight pain he was on good mood. The crowd seemed excited, happy and nervous. All sorts of emotions were in the air. Good vibes, as some of the spring people might have said. His ears stood up, perked. The evening not only smelled, but also sounded good.

Speaking of spring... Chantelle was preceded by a delicate floral scent that hinted of new growth and blooming flowers. Her sweet voice had the south Louisiana drawl as she addressed the wounded beast, "now dat look' painful, I would 'ave brung some oin'men' if I dought folks gon' fight." The egret was impeccably groomed and well dressed, in stark contrast to the matted and lichen infested wolfman. Her feathers rustled as she reached past him to pick up a morsel of shellfish and pop it into her beak with her spidery fingers.

Smelling the flowers, Marcus wrinkled his nose, turning to the direction of the scent. "Uh." the best blinked, flopping his large head down and up. "I saw the others having fun. I thought I'd join." he explained with a deep, rumbling voice. "Was fun, until it wasn't." a dry cackle followed. "I've had worse done to me." he added, plucking out yet another spine. The beast whimpered a little as he pulled the barbed spine out. Dark red blood stained the matted green fur. "Prickly fellow, that lady." This time the rumbling tone took a bemused tone.

"All crawfished out, me" she said, looking up at Eliza. There was no smile on that creepy face whatsoever; but then, a smile would probably only make her seem even creepier.

That was not the real question, of course. It had been a request for shared information; a big ask from a Darkling of Autumn.

"Oh, just gossip so far. Whispers of animosity b'tween freeholds, 'n such, I heard. But whispers are just that, no?"
