[D1-EE] Good Ol’ Fashioned Crawdad Boil [event]

The lake is a popular spot for fishing and water sports, rumored to be named after a tribe that lived in the area, it is a cold murky lake with a spotty history.

Good Ol’ Fashioned Crawdad Boil
The Kings and Queens of the Freehold decided the best way to introduce all the attending Lost to each other was with a Cajun dinner party. Dily wasn't the most sociable person. She didn't know most of these others and that made her uncomfortable. Not that anything could be read on the snowskin's expression... for it was as calm as a frozen lake. Even with the Mask, the wintery woman wore furs draped over her shoulders, and with charms in her hair made of stone and bone.

There could be no complaints to her manners as she introduced herself to the others and began to exchange pleasantries. Her cool demeanor was perhaps impressive to some, especially as she seemed less harsh than other winterlings could be. Not that she was warm, but she was not dismissive nor rude. Merely calm.

And when she began to speak of the old stories of the land, even if she was not animated or raising her voice, there was something about her that drew the listeners in closer, to hear the tales of the natives who had once lived her before it became what it was today.

Of course, she paid attention to what was going on besides the carousing and the feasting... when so many of these gathered in one place, there was bound to be something worth happening. Such was the rules of nature, after all.

When people began to entertain eachother and the hosts, there was some surprise as she joined in the festivities, offering rythmic beats from a hand-drum to accompany others who would perform.

Eliza wasn't one for parties. However, the kings and queens were all in attendance, so it means she had to be as well. Didn't mean she had to enjoy it, and she didn't. She picked the first table that she could sit at that and sat down in silence. She wasn't much of a talker, or a conversation starter, but when the others at the gathering noticed the area around them dropping rapidly in temperature, it was hard for her to not be dragged into the conversation. She responded, her voice carrying over the rest of the noise, joining in the conversation but never offering more than she had to.

Her ears remained open, listening to the other tables. Learning her surroundings. No better way to learn than by what they're talking about after all. Nothing around her bothered her, she was as cool as ice. Or bored. Or disinterested. It was difficult to tell with the girl.

Chantelle didn't consider herself to be overtly social, but her employment had ensured that she was practised. The Fairest was elegant, moving with grace and aplomb, as she helped herself to food and drink, and sat amongst the other Lost. She spoke with Cajun affectations, her sweet voice and attractive appearance drew attention as she introduced herself and conversed on voodou and the mortals who practised it without ever seeing behind the veil.

When the eating was done, and people were mixing more freely, Chantelle broke into song, waving to Dilyéhé to provide a cheerful Cuban beat to liven up the song.

Samantha hadn't been back long; in that time there had been a few events no doubt, but it was still... interesting... to attend such a feast. And good to have a taste of all the old dishes again. Some of them she'd almost forgotten. Ah, but people were expecting her to make the talk of small words, and so she... well, she *attempted* it.

But Samantha was small, and not very easy to notice. Her voice was soft too. So she just sat at her table, moving about in her puppet-like fashion, staring at people with her unblinking eyes. Probably creeping some of them out to the point where they tried their best to ignore her. Still, she kept at it. She tried starting up a conversation about ghosts, which she knew quite a bit about. Maybe it was her own appearance that caused some of them to listen; but now she at least made some headway. She described how she'd encountered different types of ghosts, what sort of thing to look out for when dealing with them, and other attributes of interest. But as fascinating a topic as it might be, Changelings were a fickle lot and soon the conversation turned to other subjects.

Unseen, even without calling upon her contracts, the small Darkling's attention turned to the table behind her, unobtrusively picking up a bit of gossip.

But fun as that might be, it wasn't something that drew attention. Not until someone challenged her to a duel. Or was it the other way around? Regardless, she asked to be allowed the use of a knife, and sure enough the other Lost consented. Which was a good thing, because she *knew* how to use a knife. Her technique was *almost* flawless. She managed to show off her skill, avoided harming the other changeling as well as incurring any injuries herself, and so the night continued on.

"Hi, I'm Gray" There wasn't much of an impression there. Mom and Dad never really got me to grown up parties, and...yeah, this is new Gray found himself wanting to slink back into a hole and eat. Fortunately, the smell of shellfish was readily there to gobble down sweet goodness, and eating let him settle in and listen to other people chat.

"-but the Seal of Solomon"

Gray laughs, not realizing that he's interrupting. He had a point, but is promptly too embarrassed to contribute anything. Instead, he shuts up and listens. His ears twitch, and he smiles, bringing his knees up. I guess it pays to be silent

A roar breaks out a lug lands a punch on a foe, slamming the unfortunate sap into the back of Gray's seat. Gray hisses in anger and annoyance, his ears flattening. The bear of a man (or man of a bear?) laughs. "What are you going to do about it pipsqueak?"

Gray's fur rises. "I got next." He strides over into the ring and takes a brawlers stance. The larger foe lunges, and Gray sidesteps, artfully catching the strike in an arm bar and driving the other Changeling into the turf. Gray offers a hand up, and the Changeling takes it with a snort. "Damn, not bad for a little guy!"

Something roils across the night air, causing the fur on Gray's neck to stand up, but he ignores it, continuing to play along. It wouldn't do to let the boogeymen know they caused a shiver. "Right ya are boyo, naw lesse 'bout getting you a drink."

Craig walked into the gathering with a mixture of emotions, he was no stranger to crowds or socializing. But that didn't mean it was his favorite activity especially when other courts were involved. Craig was a nice enough guy but that didn't mean that he trusted winter courtiers, they seemed to always be plotting or sneaking around. Even the nice ones seemed to hide darkness behind those frozen smiles. But Craig did well enough mingling about, chatting people up, and generally letting loose.

After he'd had his fill of crawdad's and jumbo, and his fill was quite a bit, Craig wandered about drink in hand thinking it may be time to pack it in after he finished it off. That notion changed when he saw some people showing off their martial prowess, the big man grinned and scooped a few chunks of ice from his drink, smashing them violently with his teeth enacting a contract he had formed long ago with a fae he fought for. on lookers would see the already imposingly large man grow a few more inches still. He entered the circle of people and asked for a challenge, many were cowed by his sheer size but eventually a brutish looking Lost made of metal that carried the feel of autumn about him stepped forward with a piercingly intimidating look in his eyes. Craig didn't hesitate and charged the other man quickly shifting to his opponents back and lifting them into the air. This was over. with a curve of his knee the other ogre had not footing when Craig reunited him to the ground. He use restraint of course, this was a friendly bout not a fight for survival. The fiery summer ogre extended his hand to the metallic autumnal one helping him to his feet and clapping him on the back.

As the night wore on Craig got a bit perturbed here and there, a sprightly spring spriggan knocked his drink out of his hand while dancing drunkenly far from the dance floor, a winter courtier with the head of a snow owl constantly looked at Craig turning her head 90 degrees as if he were a curious lab specimen, or dinner. but Craig shrugged it off and went back to partying after a while he simply hung around Redmane and his summer retinue.

As usual, no one seemed to notice Jack sitting at the table. He spoke up a few times, but he and his words were overlooked. Finally, he just started talking. Maybe someone would be interested in the qualities of wood.

"This is pretty nice." He rapped his knuckles against the table. "Solid, but not hard. Easy to work with. Typical pine, really. But, it's not dried out. It should hold some nice detail."

He had caught the attention of a few people, briefly. They had actually seemed interested, but there's only so much one can say about pine. Spying a pile of firewood, Jack slipped away to grab a branch or two. No one seemed to notice, which allowed him to overhear a few conversations. If anyone saw him return to the table and begin, carving the branches with his knife, they didn't say anything.

A few were distracted, anyway, as some conversations became more heated. Jack ignored them, as he continued to whittle away. In the end, he had a little doll, only a few inches tall. Her features were simple, but she appeared to be female. There were joints
for her arms and legs, connected with long, thin shavings of the wood. It wasn't a sophisticated design, but It was effective. Supported by a few strings or even a stick, the toy might dance. As he heard Chantelle sing, he decided it should dance.

Standing the doll up with his hands, he whispered to it. "Come on, Little Lucy, dance for the pretty lady."

He let it go. And, it did.

Marcus entered, his spirits high. He never turned down free food and while he wasn't the most social of beings, having others like him around him did help him feel at ease. The smell of grease and spices hung heavy in the air. The beast most fowl looked around, his ears perked even as the eyes on his feathered tail were blinking in confusion. Marcus gave his tail an indignant wiggle. The thing had never like people, humans or otherwise.

A fly landed on the tip of his snout, with Marcus staring down at the insect that tried to thrust it proboscis into the skin beneath. We are all hungry beasts... he thought to himself before huffing softly, the gust of air sending the mosquito flying. With his matted, lichen covered fur he was practically impervious to the local small fauna. Chances were that the other changelings tasted better too.

Alas, the large, furry creature didn't make a particularly good impression on his kin. Tall and clumsy, Marcus fit ill among the lithe and graceful beings that surrounded the tables. He didn't let that bother him too much, after all, he was here for the food and drinks. He watched several Knights of the Summer wrestle, showing of their might at arms. He shrugged, figuring he could do just as well he wanted.

So he challenged a strange looking, half-porcupine, half woman beastling to a bout. The two circled each other, with Marcus having a hard time to figure how he was supposed to grab something that spiky. However, his opponent made his life easier by whacking him with one of her fists and knocking him down. Incited, Marcus jumped back up and whacked her, similarly knocking her down... and lodging several of her spines in his arm.

Lifting the bleeding arm, he waved at the Porcupine woman - in effect yielding to her. The two exchanged bows with the beastling woman leaving Marcus to tend to his wounds.

Mina was jazzed to attend to crawdad boil, and found herself at a table with her motleymate Dily - though her eyes were ever drawn to Alsuf, and less so to her Queen now and then.

She maintained something of an interesting conversation, but wasn't too overt or, well, weird about the uses of alcohol and it's merits. Just enough to keep the talk flowing without any awkward pauses. For her, at least.
Then someone asked her to work some magic in their cup, and well... Let;s just say Mina's table had a real good time after that.
But the humid air and the gnats were bothering her something fierce, and everything kept buzzing- louder and louder inside Mina's head- until maybe she said a little bit too much about a certain handsome spring Knight.. Handsome and he knows it, amiright? But oof, those muscles.
