"Den so be it," she said.

(quick question: is it possible to activate a contract against her while looking at her through the mirror, or do I have to be in the room with her?)

She ended the contract; and pulled out the knife she had taken from her nephew. Cutting her thumb, she smeared the blood across the mirror in front of her, and spoke; "Medea LeBlanc, Fetch."

As she did, a new contract was enacted; and rather than merely transmit sound and images, the mirror now served as a gateway between here, and there. The room where the fetch had been, daring her to do her worst.

Samantha stepped through; bloodied knife still in hand as she came out the other end, standing in front of the thing that had taken her place.

The room was dark just as in the mirror but now that she was here she got the distinct feeling she was not alone in the room with her fetch.

If there was someone else there; they would've heard her through the mirror, certainly. So Samantha did not immediately attempt to hide her presence as a knee-jerk reaction. Instead, she looked around; trying to find the source of the feeling.

There was something in the door way out of sight of the mirror. It was tall and filled the frame of the door, it seemed to hunch but the darkness clung to it and all she could make out were two red eyes that slunk back and out of sight freeing the doorway of its presence.

There was no sound... nothing, but once it is out of sight she can hear herself breathe. There is a faint smell of cinnamon in the air.

Was that real? Or just one of the figments of her imagination that plagued the lost from time to time? And if it was real, then what *was* it. Was it the man from the photographs? She had business here to attend to, but she could surely spare a couple of seconds to pop her head out into the hallway, to see if it was there.

In the hallway there was a shambling darkness and the scent of cinnamon and sweet memories surrounded here as the thing moved into another chamber...

The silence followed it.

"I'll be back for you," she said, turning toward her fetch for a moment. The old woman wasn't going anywhere, after all.

Then she went out into the hallway, and followed it into the other room. Quietly. As silently as it had even, perhaps. She did not call upon magical abilities, contracts, to hide her passage. She did not need it. Not yet.

She finds an open window, and there is a bloody handprint of a child on it. On the sill is an apple sitting in a growing pool of crimson blood.

Whatever was here is now gone.
