[Day 2 - LA] Getting Ghosted

Post by Dapper Dog » Sun Oct 06, 2019 4:16 am

A small crowd had formed around a duo, one carried a slim laptop and the other was adjusting a gopro on her jacket. The large man had introduced himself as Jason and the woman was Sarah they were the duo that made up, #SoGhosted, a youtube channel specializing in documenting and debunking supernatural events. The channel as he explained was on the rise and they just broke 500k followers and their patreon was doing really well at least according to Jason.

Jason said, “So what brings #SoGhosted to Minuit, we are here to investigate a haunted plantation and see if we can get some evidence for our channel. But we do it live, usually in one ten to twelve hour stream we host on both Youtube and Twitch so our fans can see everything we see live and direct. Tomorrow night we will be going live at the location but today we are just here to get any stories about Minuit or the plantation of the spooky side.”

Sarah chimed in, “Make sure to sign a release form and please no cursing we can edit it out but we run a relatively clean channel, better for the sponsors.”

Samantha had overheard some people talking about some 'ghost hunters' doing a thing in town. She was pretty sure that sort of thing was *her* area of expertise, and she didn't like the thought of facing some competition. So she showed up to check it out. It was... not what she had expected. Samantha didn't know what the hell they were talking about. What the hell was a youtube? Or a Patreon? And there weren't anywhere near 500 thousand people following them, there were what, maybe a couple of dozen people here at most?

These were obviously con-people.

She would have to teach them a lesson when they do that... 'live at the location' thing.

For now, she was just part of the crowd, listening to what they had to say, hoping to hear where they were going to do their thing tomorrow.

She liked the notion of a mystery prize; but still had no idea what some of the words the woman was talking about meant. How did one reply to a tweet? There weren't any birds around, were there? And what is that whole hash tag thing?

She probably looked quite lost.

Jason saw her discomfort and said, “Hey well you look like you have a story to tell, care to share with our fans?”

He offered her a water and added, “I promise to keep it painless.”

She had not been expecting them to talk to her; still, she didn't skip much of a beat before answering the question.

"Dere are many stories," she said, "as there are many dead, non? Which of dem do you chase? Dere are so many."

((any roll to know a bunch of ghost stories relevant to their interests?))

She didn't know if it was the same plantation they spoke of, but she figured that if a lesson was to be taught, it was a good idea to set the stage first. So she picked one of the stories surrounding a plantation in the area, one that she'd heard of even as a little girl. She had not had the time to verify the truth of it; did not know if the ghost was actually there either. But it was the most relevant story she could think of.

"Dere's de story of Marielle De'Lacourt. You have 'eard of dis one perhaps, oui? Owned a plantation 'ere, she did; back a few years 'fore de one dey called de Kingfish 'came governor. Back when dey had de violent kind of hatred for de colored ones among de creoles. Bad days those, heard it said many a time. Dey went 'round dozens strong, tear down all de tings de creole built. Whatever it be. And one, he had built love with Marielle. And dat dey said it could not be. No law to stop them neither, so dey went to de old plantation, and dey showed de numbers dey had, and said it wasn't right. Dey said their words, dey threw their things, warning dey would kill her man if dey found 'im. And den went back to town dey did. Dey never did find de man, but found her body de next church day dey did. Said he had killed her, for it is what dey do. But no creole, no matter de color, believe dat. We know it was de hate which killed defan Marielle. And now she still haunt de place, looking for her man, and woe be to him or her that shows their face dere dat ain't him."

Gray waits until there is a clear moment, stirring his mocha special (hold the chocolate, sugar and espresso) then rapping the metal spoon against the ceramic. "Thank ya Junnie, ya a peach."

Gray offers the barista a smile that doesn't quite reach his eyes (normal for him) and turns back to the pair of newcomers.

"Ya sure ya wanna hear stories? Some things..." Gray sips his drink. "Maybe better left unsaid"

Jason replied to Samantha, "Damn, that's a great story we have to have that one in the video. Have you had any personal experiences you want to tell us about?"

Sarah said to Gray, "We have been to over fifty haunted locations, the more supposed danger the better."
