More than one inferno [D1, LA]

[Samantha Hayne]

"Oui," she said, noting the answer fell in line with her expectations. "You've passed from the land of the living, cher. Dis is what I look like all de time. Mais, normally it is hidden from the normal, the living. You gone and died, but maybe de magics of the twilight keep you from knowing it. Something ties you here, cher. Maybe it is Louis that keeps you here. He's safe, cher. He gone and ran from de flames."

[Mirachaya]

"He's so little and he was orphaned as a baby and he needs a home. Please, please save him!" Spoken like a true cat lady...

She seemed to be absorbing the news about her death still and focusing in on one thing.

[Samantha Hayne]

"If I find him a home, do you feel you could be at peace?"

[Mirachaya]

Rebecca nodded slowly, "he's different than most kittens, special I tell you! He needs a special home. I feel it in my bones. There's somethin' differen' about that one. He is smarter, by far."

[Samantha Hayne]

She nodded slowly. If that is what it took to set things ever so slightly right, then that is what she would do.

"But cher, he ran off. And it been a spell. Where would I find him, you'd say?"

[Mirachaya]

The ghost seemed to think, "there's a fish monger down a few blocks... that way?" The ghost pointed vaguely west. "He always liked visiting there, and Madame LeRoux's on fifth ave."

[Samantha Hayne]

"If I find him, I will return."

She released the ghost's hand.

"Before I go, have you seen others? De one that did this? Or the ones that came to de house?"

[Mirachaya]

"There was another. One like you came, or I think like you, they didn't look like a doll. Then... the other was gone."

[Samantha Hayne]

That caused her a moment of... confusion? A pang of panic, even.

"After de fire?"

Had to have been; there had only been Samantha, her friends, and the ghost that originally haunted the place. Wasn't that all there had been? If another Lost had been involved, that was cause for alarm.

But it was more likely that someone had come to check on what had caused things *after* the fire. Perhaps to see what had happened in their town. Perhaps just by happenstance. Perhaps it was even another one like her, travelling the in-between places.

"What did they look like, cher? And what did they do?"

[Mirachaya]

"After? I guess... They looked like a crow... person? Frightening thing. They came a few times and then he... just wasn't here anymore."
