[D5, EE] Coming Home (Chantelle's Apartment)

[Jack Doyle]

"We went to look at furniture afterward." he added. "She's still picking up a few things."

[Chantelle Rossette]

Chantelle shifted uncomfortable, tension in her shoulders, feathers rustling softly. "Di' you fin' anyting you like?" she deflected, wondering about Jack's motive for coming back when he had so little to pack.

[Jack Doyle]

"A book shelf." he nodded. "But, I was mostly trying to understand Tiffani better."

[Chantelle Rossette]

She closed her eyes for a moment, sighing. Apparently Jack had come with a purpose, better to get it over with. "Mais, di' you do dat?"

[Jack Doyle]

"I think so." he nodded. "She's a bit complicated, but she wants what most of us want, to be wanted, to belong, to be loved. She's been disappointed in that, so it hurts her to feel rejected, even if it wasn't intentional."

[Chantelle Rossette]

Chantelle pressed her beak shut firmly, unsure of Jack's point.

[Jack Doyle]

"The first thing I told her, was that families fight." he said after a quiet moment. "I'm not sure she understood what I meant at first. She was still upset. But, she repeated it back to me later on, in her own way."

Chantelle wanted to say that Tiffani wasn't the only one who was upset, but she assumed Jack already knew that. Instead, she continued packing, letting Jack say what he came to say.

[Jack Doyle]

"She'll be back later." he added. "Did you have dinner?"

[Chantelle Rossette]

“I’m no’ ‘ungry, dank you, Mon Petite.” When she looked at Jack, she felt a surge of affection and protectiveness, and tonight that was a bittersweet taste, waiting for the other shoe to drop.
