[D3 LE] Helping Hand (Chantelle's Apartment)

"Funny that," she said with a bit of irony in her tone. "That's what my parents always told me."

Despite having been taken by the Fae, despite losing 34 years of her life, despite being dumped into the Hedge by someone she thought was her best friend, despite learning there was such a thing as magic, despite sitting at a table with a menagerie of Changelings - despite those things, she was still a teenage girl, after all. Was it so wrong to crave some intimacy in her life? It seemed as if that were the case. Perhaps it was too tall an order.

"Anyway ... like I said, forget about it." She sipped at her cocoa relishing the taste of the chocolate mixed with the sweet taste of melted marshmallow. "Let's just enjoy the evening."

[Marcus Kendall]

Marcus shrugged, figuring that the matter had been resolved. He hadn't been his self when he had stumbled back to the real world. Not that he was still his former self, but he had found his bearings, with the grasp of the Arcadia growing weaker on him - or that's how he deemed the matters to be. So, he simply concluded that anything strange Tiffany might do or ask was due to the lingering effects of Arcadia. "Don't worry too much about it missus. You'll feel better tomorrow. You have a lot to learn, but, it'll be better. Trust me." There the beast was, pot calling kettle black.

[Tiffani]

Trust me. The irony of those words were not lost on Tiffani, but she wasn't about to make an issue of it. One botch was enough for the evening and she was thoroughly ashamed of herself for making such a stupid mistake. No one else seemed at all troubled by some bizarre compulsion that buzzed constantly in her mind as if someone dumped a hive of bees into her ear. Therefore, it must be her, must be something she alone was putting up with. Time to put it to bed. At least for now ... and with these particular people.

"So ... uh ... what do you guys do for fun around here, anyway?" But, as she thought about fun, another thought occurred to her. "Actually, I need some way to start earning my own money. Somehow. I mean, it's not as if you adopted me or anything."

[Marcus Kendall]

"I work on a trawler. Well, when the fish' is in season anyway." Marcus replied. "Probably not job for the missus." his tongue lolled out, once more almost as if the beast was laughing. "The court folks such have some idea. The Freehold has few places." Unfortunately, that was all the beast had to offer. "As for the fun, uh, what do you think is fun missus?" he asked in return. "There are the bars and pubs. Me, I am not much of a people person, so I hang out in the bayou a fair bit. No-one there."

[Tiffani]

Tiffani smirks and nods at Marcus. "Something tells me I wouldn't be any use to anyone on a fishing trawler - and don't they say that women on board ship is bad luck?" She considers for a moment. "Might be fun though - at least for a little while."

"Anyhow, if there's no one at the bayou, then what do you do there? Are you into meditation or something? In fact, I'm not altogether sure precisely what a 'bayou' even is. Even so, don't worry, I don't have any intentions of following you there and disturbing your peace. As you said, you're not a people person so ... I'm probably annoying you half to death. I won't keep badgering you."

[Jack Doyle]

Jack sat, watched, listened and sipped at his cocoa. He was a quiet one, for the most part, content to learn quietly from others.

[Tiffani]

Still feeling a little uncomfortable at making everyone else feel uncomfortable, Tiffani cleared her throat, setting down her empty mug. "Perhaps I should find a place to sleep. It's been a long day and I've walked ... I don't know. Kilometers probably. I mean Miles," she amended, realizing she was in America. "And sleeping will keep me quiet, yes? Probably the best part." She chuckled a little self-depricatingly.

[Chantelle Rossette]

“If you’ tired, you’ll be sleepin’ in my bed. I pu’ fresh shee’s on fo’ you earlia, an’ dere’s clea’ towels in de batroom if you’ li’ to showa.” Helping herself to a gingersnap, “If you li’ to stay an’ chat a lil more, we jus’ wor’ ou’ dat T’Jack ‘ere was a boy in ninetee’ ninetee’,” she ruffled the elf doll’s hair affectionately.

[Jack Doyle]

"Get some rest" Jack nodded. "I'll likely be out all night, so my room is available, too, not that there's anything in it yet."

[Tiffani]

"I couldn't help but notice that Jack hasn't said more than a handful of words since I walked through the door." Tiffani gives Jack a glance, a cursory one so as not to seem to stare. Then she shrugs a single dainty shoulder, the bare one that her Flashdance-style shirt doesn't cover, and allows Jack his peace.

"I suppose I could hang around for a little while - if you still want to chat. After what I did, you know?" She looks long at Marcus when she says this, obviously troubled by her earlier outburst. "But I can always leave you three to your peace."

She then fishes around in her bag and pulls out her mirror and a big comb which she uses to jab repeatedly at her spiral curls, fluffing them up, trying to stave off her rapidly deteriorating appearance. But it didn't really matter if she were going to shower later.

"Anyway, if I'm going to stay here at the table, might I trouble you for a refill?"

Then Jack speaks, her surprise evident that the doll actually said something. "Oh, you're leaving? Well ... I don't know. I guess I could stay there and let Chantelle have her own bed. If, uh, you don't mind a stranger sleeping in your bed, that is."
