[D5 EA] Stray (Stray’s Townhouse)

Marcus, having rather awkwardly had to listen, stood behind the door, leaning against the wall. An aura on misery surrounded the beast, his tail drooping between his legs, the feathers dull. When Chantelle stepped back in, the beast pulled her into an embrace, wrapping his long and hairy arms around her small frame. He had no words - he had never been a word person. In his new form, pained by doubts and the ever lingering desires, he had even fewer words. Yet, somehow he knew that no words were needed.

Chantelle wiped her eyes and composed herself with a shaky breath, “mais, mon loulou,” but she didn’t seem to know what to say beyond that, sinking into his embrace, roiling waves of unhappiness spreading out from her.

The beast placed his snout over her head, the small egret almost sinking into his fur. Marcus smelled of flowers, sadness and confusion. Sharp notes of concern accented the swirl of emotions that clung to his fur like wet leaves against the pavement. "Mhmhm...." he growled, soothingly. "It's gonna be okay." Unfortunately, Marcus was a terrible liar. "Mister Jack's gonna talk to her." He was also rather optimistic, all things considered.

Slipping her wings around his waist, Chantelle reached up and combed her finger through the beast’s fur, “I know,” she sighed, “it wa’ jus’ a shock.” The tempestuous emotions rising from the egret disagrees with such oversimplification, but she hadn’t begun to process what happened yet.

The beast had little to say and so instead he merely held Chantelle close, cuddling her against his chest. He kept murmuring, his breath thrumming against his feathers. She was better liar than he was, and he did not doubt her words. "You can be here as long as you want."

Chantelle closed her eyes and breathed, letting the beast form his protective wall around her. Even if he could protect the egret from herself, it was still comforting to be held.
