"You trust us all?" He asked, moving his free hand to scratch an itching spot behind his ears. "Wouldn't mind a proper roof on my head but I don't get much money when the fish are not there." With the fishing season over hus income had plummeted.

"Mhhm. I suppose we could do that." Marcus muttered, sounding interested. "Would need pretty big place. 4 beds and all. Then again, not like we are in California." He cackled lightly, causing her head to heave on his chest. "Sorry babe." He calmed himself, still running his paw over her feathers. "Have you talked to the others?"

Murmuring, "weh, Tiffani was qui' keen, an' T'Jack is onboar'. I jus' nee' to know if we nee' roo' fo' you as well."

"Oh I am in, but if you can't find a place big enough I can sleep on a carpet." The beast reached to poke his cheat right next to her beak. "Got my own blanket."

Chantelle chuckled musically, “‘opefully it won’ come to dat.” She combed her long fingers through his rough fur, brushing past lichen growths as if she didn’t notice them, or as if they were part him, which they were. “T’Jack speakin’ to de Autumn King, see if we canno’ fin’ a place ‘ere in de French Quarta.”

"Oh, fancy." the beast ran his knuckles absentmindedly along her back, lifting his paw up after each stroke to avoid ruffling her feathers. "Meh, if it comes to that, it's fine babe. Don't really need a bed." he paused for a moment before added. "Though, won't mind sharing yours now and then." His tone was a little different. The beast did not have many wants or needs, and the few he had he made clear.

Conflicting emotions rose from Chantelle’s shoulders, coiling on the air. She looked up at him, her chocolate eyes dark in the low light of the Hedge, looking for answers to questions she didn’t want to ask. The muddied smell was complicated, several components working in harmony and discord. “I woul’ li’ dat,” she eventually answered, and her tone was sincere.

"Good." the beast murmured, still preoccupied with her feathers. He admired just how soft they were. His own fur felt so rough in comparison. While they both had been toys, she had likely been a show piece while he was a beast of burden. Marcus wasn't sure which fate was worse. Both curious and mischievous, his claw ventured bit lower, giving her rump a playful squeeze. "Hey, with big bad beast here, you got nothing to fear."

“No’ even you?” she asked cheekily. Chantelle shifted her wing, stroking the fur of his belly, her long feathers brushing against his arm as she folded them back out of the way.
