[D5 LA] Tiff's Tiff and other Miscellany
Re: [D5 LA] Tiff's Tiff and other Miscellany
"Yeah, they have, though even moon landings are before my time. Now they do everything with robots and mechanical probes. Seems as if manned spaceflight is a thing of the past, not the future." Her voice belies a certain disappointment in her opinion on the exploration of space. "Everything is about money. If there isn't an immediate and substantial pay-out for space exploration, no one wants to do it."
Tiffani leans to the side to see around the people standing in front of her. "Oh thank god, only one more person. I hate waiting in queues. It makes me wonder just how many collective years of our lives are spent doing things like this - waiting in queues, waiting at red lights on the road, sitting in waiting rooms. It's bad enough that we spend fully one-third of our lives sleeping."
Pulling out her cash again, she casually flips through a number of bills, holding the money in such a way as to not be visible to the most number of people. Counting out the amount she thinks she'll need, she quickly puts the rest away.
"I've been teaching myself how to use the internet and such. I'd be happy to teach you, as well, if you'd like. I don't have one of those fancy iphones because, well, who am I going to call with it? We'd have to learn how to use those things together simultaneously. But hey, two brains are better than one."

"That would be good." he nodded. "Chantelle did give me a phone. I think it's a simple one."

After paying for the sheets and comforter, she sauntered back out into the mall proper - or did her best to saunter as she struggled with the large comforter she had purchased. She stopped near a fountain and sat down on a bench.
"I need to get off my feet for a few minutes," Tiffani said with a tired-sounding sigh.
"Well ... sure, if I ever get a complicated phone, perhaps you can help me figure it out. Though I can't justify the need for one at present."
A lengthy pause.
"You know ... and I don't mean any offense, but, uh ... you're a bit hard to get to know. So silent, even a bit aloof. I can tell you're the kind who likes to play his cards close to the vest, as they say."

"You can ask questions." he offered. "I'll answer what I can. I just don't talk much. Never have."

"Actually, I have been asking questions. In fact, I'm pretty sure I asked, well ... all of the questions." Tiffani starts going through the numerous bags she is carrying, checking to make sure everything is there. She has shopping bags looped over her arms all the way to her elbows.
"Anyway, yeah, I can tell you don't talk much. That's why I was truly surprised - even shocked - that you volunteered to go shopping with me. You just seemed ... I dunnae ... anti-social. People as quiet as you will probably always be seen that way."
The bags rattle and crinkle and make a racket as she goes through them, holding her spirally hair out of her face with one hand.
"It's a bit ... weird? If that's the right word. I suppose the majority of people enjoy talking about themselves - but you don't. At least, not that I can tell. I'm just not used to dealing with that, but I should be. It's not as though I ever engaged in a real back-and-forth conversation while in Arcadia. It was always me sitting there listening to my Keeper dump all of her problems onto me. Boohoo, whine, cry, and moan. That's what I heard day in and day out for 34 years."
She stops looking at her bags and leans her head all the way back against the wall of the fountain behind her, staring at the ceiling. After a few moments she says simply, "Sorry."

"Maybe I am anti-social." he shrugged. "I don't recall ever being social."

"You did come shopping with me," TIffani pointed out, "so you can't be completely anti-social. But you are unusually quiet. Like I said before, it makes me feel like I'm too chatty - like - I'm dominating the conversation."'
After peeking through her packages, she sets them on the floor with a sigh of relief.
"Are you hungry, thirsty or anything? We can get something at the food court if you are. When do you want to get back and talk to Chantelle?"

"I'm still full from the pizza." he patted his stomach. "And, I should get back to Chantelle soon. Is there anything you think I should try, while we're here?"

"Hmm, I dunnae - I mean, I hadn't really thought of it. I didn't realize just how out of time you really were."
She thinks for a few moments before her mood suddnly brightens.
"Ever have a Stawberry Julius? Oh my god .. I could drink nothing but those things forever."

"I don't think so?" he shook his head. "What's a Julius?"
