(D2, EE) Whittling the Time Away

He wasn't sure what it would be yet. It might not be anything. Jack's knife cut small pieces of the wood away, shaving the broken branch down, little by little. He looked around occasionally, studying the neighborhood. He had no idea who's steps he was sitting on, but he hadn't been shooed away yet. As usual, no one seemed to pay much attention to the boy, even with a knife in his hand.
