Tiffani merely nods somewhat somberly as Chantelle gathers her things and leaves, leaving her to sit alone at her table. Already, a profound sense of loss came over her as if she had just been told a loved one had died. It was a nonsensical feeling, she knew.
Once when she was 10, she rescued a stray kitten during a cold October drizzle. When she brought it into the house, the kitten wouldn't leave her side for a moment. It slept with her, laid in her lap while she played on the computer. Dozed on the floor next to her as she ate in the kitchen. It took weeks for the kitten to realize it had a home now and wouldn't be abandoned again.
Now she knew how that kitten had felt. Well ... unlike the kitten, she wasn't about to follow Chantelle into the bathroom, too. That brought a smirk to her face and so, feeling better already, she left the table. It would probably take the rest of the night just to find Chantelle's apartment - or house - or whatever she lived in.
