[Queen of Crows]

The Queen said, “I just wanted to be that Raven rapping and tapping at your chamber door, isn’t that how the poem goes? It’s been so long so you had me over, Jason, almost made me feel like you didn’t like me.”

“Not that I didn’t despise you… oh and you have a guest,” she finished giving Samantha a withering look.

“The first of many unasked guests this day, but one a bit more enjoyable than you my dear,” he replied while sipping his tea.

The rats bring Samantha her food and tea, promptly.

“So get to your point.”

“I wanted to give my personal condolences on that fire trap of a bookstore going up in smoke, I was devastated to hear that you had suffered so. Even more so when I learned you were unharmed,” she said darkly.

She took a seat in the empty chair, leaving Samantha to stand.

“But now that I am here, please introduce me,” she commanded.

Jason gestured to Samantha and said, “I will allow my deviled doll to introduce herself.”

She did not like this queen, she decided rather quickly. But clearly it was not her place to make a fuss about it. She'd already made enough of one with Mr.Nibbles, and he was no queen. She took the tea and offered food; but found it a tad awkward with them in hand while not having anywhere to sit down. Oh well.

When the demand of introductions was made, Samantha decided it best to be the one to introduce herself, rather than have the autumn king be seen as having bowed before the demand of another monarch.

"De name Samantha Hayne is mine now," she said, "Of de King's court of Autumn."

She looked at the queen with rather considerable curiosity.

The Queen wore a long sheer dark gown underneath she wore dark lacy lingerie and a crow rested on her shoulder quietly with its dark eyes staring at Samantha. She responded with a laugh to the back of her hand and said, “Oh my, isn’t she precious. I do hope she is the one to earn the favor of Autumn, she would be a delicious choice.”

“Was I intruding, I don’t really care if I am, but I am curious for my own reasons.”

"Dere was to be talk of dis and dat," she said, thoughts turning to the talk of the crow-person that she'd been told about the other day. "May I ask de queen a question? I would wish to know if she has heard of one of us dat looks like a crow."

"You are going to have to be specific, do explain this crow person?" she said with a purr.

[Samantha Hayne]

"Dere's one dat is traversing de places I have been. Following my steps, perhaps. I wonder who it is, wonder what it is dey are after. Dere is memories I have of such a one, from before I escaped de thorns. But I do not know de context of dem. I saw de crow you keep, and thought perhaps de queen might have known whispers of de one dat traces behind me."

The Queen of Crows tapped her chin in thought and said, “That one… think he used to be Spring court at one time… long before your time, Jason… an old timer calling himself in some snarky or perhaps virulent manner, Jim Crow. But that was ages ago, ran with a rather violent crowd and used his powers to terrify the poor blacks that used to live in the area. Obsessive that one, but I figured he was gone.”

“Who knows maybe the Swamp Witch might, or maybe the goblins in the Hedge,” she finished.
