The morning light filters into the bedroom where an older woman with short cropped dark hair and craggy features said, “She looks to be coming to, sin and a shame she’s a nice looking girl to come in here and try and steal from you.”


The old woman, well outwardly she appeared an old woman but her true form was revealed to Samantha as she looked out a window and sipped some coffee. She replied to the nurse and said, “Thank you Sadie, wait downstairs and I will make sure you are compensated for your speedy services and your discretion.”

Samantha was in bed with a bandage over a sore stab wound and some stitch work to close the laceration. It had been a near thing but she was still in pain but at least they had done the humane thing and not let her bleed out.

Samantha could do little more than hiss. Whether it was at the pain, or at the Fetch... well, it was probably both.

"You're welcome," she said to break the silence. "You are free to go, I don't know what has inspired this hatred but I hope this shows I mean you no ill will."

"Dis is not over," she said. "You lived a life dat was *not* yours to live."

And then, suddenly, she turned into a spray of autumn leaves, all the colors of the fall, swirling about the room for a moment, before finding a narrow gap; assuming there was one; on a window left just slightly ajar. Out she went.

She sighed and shook her head at the thing and sipped her coffee and then got on with her day. Maybe she would see a priest.
